Washington Brant Foundation Decoy Carving Competition

Saturday, May 17, 2025 | 9:00am - 12:30pm | Maiben Park, 1011 Greenleaf Ave, Burlington, WA 98233

Washington Brant Foundation will host our annual fundraiser celebration with the 2025 Puget Sound Open Decoy Carving Competition, featuring entries from across the U.S. This year’s list of guest celebrities include newcomers Leonard Rousseau and Anthony Donato from CA. Leonard is a prominent figure in wildlife carving. He is noted for creating life like sculptures that have earned him three world championships. Anthony Donato just won back to back California Waterfowl Assn decoy of the year honors. He has multiple Best of Show awards and is famous for his incredible painting abilities.  Returning will be Marty Hanson from WI, recognized as one of the most talented U.S. carvers. He is featured in a recently released documentary titled “The Craft”, partly filmed here in WA and available on YouTube. Also coming back is Dr Chris Nicolai, noted carver and biologist from Delta Waterfowl Foundation in N.D. Chris is one of the most prolific banders of waterfowl ever. Another master carver will be World’s Champion Tom Newell of LaConner, WA. Please take the opportunity to visit with these carving notables that have come a long way to join us. Competition classes include Youth/Novice, Open Working, Special Mini (drake Ringneck Duck), and Brant. Displays are planned by Washington Waterfowl Assn, Ducks Unlimited, along with vendors Dennis Fisk, Craig Cimmiotti and Jack Westerfield. Funds generated will support our Scholarship Program and Public Outreach, which includes decoy carving classes offered through Burlington Parks and Recreation.
